The introduction of the National Curriculum statement (NCS) at schools aims to redress the imbalances of the past education imbalances. The NCS strives to enable all learners to reach their maximum potential. DOE, SACE and SADTU have acknowledged that successful implementation requires new skills for educators / teachers. These include among others being mediators of learning, interpreters and designers of learning programs and materials, leaders, administrators, scholars, researchers and lifelong learners, assessors, and subject specialists.

It is widely acknowledged that educators play a critical role in learning and assessments. To successfully fulfill their roles, educators should acquire adequate skills and abilities through Continuous Professional Development (CPD). We have established a teacher development unit that will focus on educator CPD.
